"Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."
- Colossians 3:9-10, 12 NIV
Dear Family and Friends:
This time of year is a blessed one. The mere visuals around us, blooming flowers, extended daylight and warmer temperatures are evidence that God is near. More importantly, it signifies that God is working among us. As you “spring forward” approach this time as a cleaning period. One critical component of spring cleaning is the process of clearing.
Clearing involves a purging of old or useless items. For instance, take your closets; if the clothing no longer fits, it should be cleared. If you no longer find the item(s) useful and it’s just hanging there, it too should be cleared. And so it is with our personal and spiritual lives. Those actions, habits, relationships, acquaintances, locations that are useless to our walk with Christ MUST be cleared. Ephesians 4:22-23 says that we “were taught, with regard to our former way of life, to put off our old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of our minds.” Remember that “newness” is a special gift from God above.
Springing forward is not just about daylight savings time. In fact the terminology that we “lose an hour” is spiritually false. We are blessed to be living in this appointed time to fulfill His divine purpose for our lives and His Kingdom. The word forward suggests a level of acceleration in an onward motion. The only way to advance the Kingdom is to promote, through our actions and personal examples, Christ-like behaviors towards others. Every moment and opportunity to stand for Him should be utilized as we are dispatched in His name and for His purpose.
Let’s clean up, work up and continue to look up…the time is now; there is no daylight to save! The joy of spring be yours now and always is my prayer.
Yours in Christ,
Marvin C. Zanders, II
